Fire department accident insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fire brigade accident insurance funds in Germany, as public accident insurance carriers, are part of the statutory accident insurance carriers .

history

The fire brigade accident insurance funds (FUK) were set up in the Prussian provinces to promote fire fighting by the volunteer fire brigades . After it became clear that the fire corps of the time or the compulsory fire brigades set up were only partially operational, the governments turned to volunteer fire brigades. However, the deployment of volunteer firefighters had to be socially protected. Damage to health or deaths as a result of accidents were compensated by fire brigade accident insurance funds and their predecessors even before the establishment of the trade associations in 1884 .

For example, the Schleswig-Holstein Fire Brigade Accident Fund was set up in 1882 by a resolution of the Schleswig-Holstein Provincial Parliament . The administration of the cash register was transferred to the then Landesbrandkasse as a public fire insurer.

The fire brigade accident funds in the states of Brandenburg , Hamburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Lower Saxony , Saxony-Anhalt , Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia act as special accident insurance carriers for the fire brigades . In the other countries, the fire service members are insured in the statutory accident insurance of the country or the municipalities.

The fire brigade accident insurance funds distinguish the granting of additional services for fire brigade members, in particular for hazardous activities, benefits are granted that exceed the statutory benefits of an accident insurance.

The fire brigade accident insurance funds are corporations under public law with self-administration . Services are provided in accordance with the Social Code (SGB VII) and the respective statutes . The self-governing bodies (board of directors and representative assembly) are made up of equal numbers of fire service representatives and representatives of the fire service providers (such as mayors and district administrators).

The following fire department accident insurance funds exist (as of 2018) as independent organizations:

  • Hanseatic Fire Brigade Accident Fund North (Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein)
  • Fire Department Accident Insurance Center (Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia)
  • Fire Brigade Accident Fund Lower Saxony (Lower Saxony)

In addition, there is the Brandenburg Fire Department Accident Insurance Fund, which is legally an independent body under public law, but is managed in personal union with the Brandenburg Accident Insurance Fund.
