The Winterthur Fire Department is the fire department of the city of Winterthur in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland . As the main department of the «Protection & Intervention» department, it reports to the «Security and Environment» department of the city administration.
history
The roots of the Winterthur fire brigade go back to the year 1895, when the large municipal council approved a fire brigade emergency call for the first time with the «Regulations for alarms and fire brigade calls», which was later called the fire watch . In 1922 the fire brigade moved into the depot at Lindstrasse 4, which they used until the turn of the millennium. The fire station was called the professional fire brigade from 1982 . After having reinforced since 1970 single full-time firefighters call had been made, allowing a referendum in 1989, the introduction of 24-hour standby. In July 2000 the fire brigade moved into a new building near the Teuchelweiher, in the vicinity of the Mechatronics School in Winterthur and the Teuchelweiher multipurpose facility .
organization
The fire brigade consists of a professional fire brigade with 50 members, including 3 women, a volunteer fire brigade with around 120 members and a youth fire brigade .
The professional fire brigade is divided into 3 task forces of 11 people each, who alternate in 24-hour shifts. Another five members of the professional fire brigade work in administration and command. For this purpose, the members of the professional fire brigade are on standby for 2 × 24 hours, where they have to be on call within 12 minutes at the fire station.
The volunteer fire brigade consists of a staff, four equally organized trains (trains 1–4) and a logistics detachment. Members of the four platoons are recruited for the base fire brigade (base groups 11-14) as well as for special tasks such as the traffic group (VA) and the command vehicle team (ELF). Depending on the type and location of the event, parts of the volunteer fire brigade are deployed together with the professional fire brigade.
In 2016, the Winterthur fire brigade carried out 815 missions.
In addition to the Winterthur fire brigade, Rieter and the Winterthur Cantonal Hospital have their own company fire brigades, which can also be called in in the event of major fires.
