The figawa - Association of Companies in the Gas and Water e. V. - Technical-Scientific Association is a registered association based in Cologne . This was founded on December 10, 1926 as an association of manufacturers in the gas and water sector "FAGAWA" in Weimar.

It is divided into the specialist areas of water, gas and pipelines.

Goals and tasks are:

  • Participation in the establishment of relevant standards and regulations
  • Participation in company and product certification by the DVGW
  • Organization of professional training
  • Provision of a discussion platform to clarify technical and scientific issues
  • Acquisition and processing of information from science, technology and practice
  • Participation in the technical improvement of the equipment and resources required for the generation and extraction, processing, transport, distribution and use of gas and water
  • Stimulation and promotion of technical and technical-scientific work in the gas and water sector
  • Promotion of a future-proof, inexpensive and environmentally friendly energy supply with natural gas

Association history

  • 1926 Founding of the association of manufacturers of the gas and water trade "FAGAWA" in Weimar (association headquarters : Dessau). Objective: To help shape a future-proof gas and water supply and to organize the new tasks in the gas and water sector. Fierce competition with lignite and electricity .
  • 1936 Relocation of the seat of the association from Dessau to Berlin .
  • 1939 During the Second World War, the FAGAWA companies are assigned to war economic goals; Most of the 156 members had to take on non-specialist tasks in the armaments industry.
  • 1946 The British military government initiated the formation of five industrial committees: gas generation, gas storage, gas distribution, gas metering, gas utilization and water supply
  • 1947 Founding of the Technical Association of Companies in the Gas and Water Sector. V. "FIGAWA" in Bochum (seat: Dortmund). President Göbel, Bochum (until 1951)
  • 1950 Development of an approval procedure for pipeline construction companies on the initiative of some companies with representatives of the DVGW
  • 1950 Foundation of the Pipeline Construction Association (RBV), corporate membership in figawa
  • 1951 President: Hans Vaillant , Remscheid (until 1974)
  • 1961 Entry of the articles of association in the register of associations at the Dortmund District Court
  • 1969 Acquisition of the association house in Cologne- Marienburg: FIGAWA Wasser and RBV move into the house
  • 1974 President: Friedrich Carl von Hof, Bremen (until 1995)
  • 1975 Merger of the management of FIGAWA Gas and FIGAWA Water; Registration of the joint seat in Cologne
  • 1977 reorganization of the specialist groups; In addition to the presidium, the entire board is made up of the chairmen of the now eleven specialist groups and a further seven experts in the gas and water sector
  • 1978 co-sponsorship of IFW Berlin
  • 1979 Change of name to “Federal Association of Firms in the Gas and Water Sector e. V. "

Others

The association was the ideal sponsor of the Wasser Berlin International trade fair . Wasser Berlin International was canceled in 2019. Figawa has been a partner of IFAT - the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management - since 2018 .
