Filbert Street was a football stadium in Leicester , England , and the home ground of the Leicester City Club between 1891 and 2002 . Although it was renamed "The City Business Stadium" in the early 1990s, like many English stadiums, it was usually colloquially named after the street on which the stadium was located.

Leicester City was founded as Leicester Fosse in 1884 , as most of its founders came from the west of the city where the River Fosse Way flowed. The club initially played in a stadium known as the Racecourse before sharing Victoria Park with the Leicester Tigers for two years . Leicester Fosse played on the site of a bike course for another year, but this was too expensive and forced a return to Victoria Park. After a few more moves, the decision was made to buy up their own property.

In 1891 the club settled on Filbert Street, where initially there was only a small grandstand on the western side. Not until 1921 was another and much larger grandstand built on the opposite side. In 1927 the grandstand (known as the "Double Decker" ) was built on the south side. In this position, the stadium reached the record number of 47,298 fans on February 18, 1928 during the FA Cup game against Tottenham Hotspur .
