Limestone soil in File Hajdar (Gotland)

File Hajdar (or Filehajdar) is an area on the Swedish island of Gotland that is characterized by a special landscape called hällmark in Swedish . The soil is also made up of lime, partly solid limestone plates. The vegetation consists of a forest that is unusually light for the climatic zone, i.e. contains low trees with relatively large distances. Rare species of orchids are found in this area.

location

The area is located 25 km northeast of Visby , 7 km west of Slite and 5 km northeast of Tingstäde northeast of Lake Tingstädeträsk .

use

The area is uninhabited or almost uninhabited and only accessible via unpaved roads.

Part of it is designated as a nature reserve and Natura 2000 area.

The eastern part is designated and cordoned off as "Fabrikområde" (factory site) and includes the quarry and potential expansion areas for the cement factory in Slite, some 5 km away.
