The Ratzersdorf branch church is located on the main square in the Ratzersdorf an der Traisen district of the municipality of St. Pölten in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic branch church of the Parish Church Pottenbrunn, consecrated to the patronage of the Good Shepherd , belongs to the Deanery St. Pölten in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

At the instigation of a church building association, the church was built in 1937 according to the plans of the architect Leopold Arthold and consecrated by Bishop Michael Memelauer . The formerly existing local chapel was then razed and only its bell was taken over, but this had to be delivered in 1942 for war purposes.

architecture

The church is a simple, small village church building typical of the interwar period, which is stylistically modern using elements of the homeland security style .

The three-axis east-facing nave shows round windows in an inclined reveal, the round church tower with an onion helmet on the north-west corner is outstanding. The rectangular nave has a beamed ceiling inside and a west gallery with a wooden parapet and a parapet organ. The retracted choir has a barrel vault, the sacristy is added to the south. A west window shows the figural stained glass St. Joseph with baby Jesus (1937).

Furnishing

The altarpiece Good Shepherd was painted by Wilhelm August Rieder (1847).

The organ was built by the Upper Austrian Organ Builders (1962). The bells were cast in 1946 and 1955.
