The place Ratzersdorf is located in Lower Austria on the Traisen between Wagram in the south, Pottenbrunn in the north and east and Viehofen and Radlberg in the west. It is the only district of St. Pölten that does not border on any other municipalities. It has been part of St. Pölten since it was incorporated in 1972 .
Surname
Ratzersdorf is first mentioned in 1187 as Razinistorf . This suggests a village named after the name Razi.
history
The first evidence of settlement in the Ratzersdorf area was found during the construction of the Krems expressway . In addition to a Stone Age settlement , the archaeologists discovered a burial ground with stool graves from the 6th millennium BC. Chr.
In 1836 Ober- and Unterratzersdorf were described as two villages, both of which were rural. Oberratzersdorf accommodated 117 people in 19 houses, Unterratzersdorf to the north in 39 houses 276 people. At that time the villages consisted of rows of houses along Poststrasse, today's Wiener Strasse, and were thus a street village .
The Church of the Good Shepherd was built in 1937 as a branch church of the Pottenbrunn parish church and consecrated by Bishop Michael Memelauer in September of the same year .
Until 1938 the cadastral communities Ober- and Unterratzersdorf formed one community. This was incorporated into the city of St. Pölten in 1939, and in 1955 it was restored as an independent municipality. At the turn of the year 1971/72 Ratzersdorf was finally incorporated. Since 1976, the cadastral communities of Ober- and Unterratzersdorf have been united to form the cadastral community and locality of Ratzersdorf an der Traisen and at the same time form a district of St. Pölten .
politics
As a district of St. Pölten, Ratzersdorf does not have its own municipal council; the mayors before 1939 and between 1955 and 1972 can be found in the list of mayors of St. Pölten .
economy
In the area of the approach to Kremser Schnellstraße, an extensive industrial area has been created in recent years. A few car dealerships and retail chains are located there.
Public facilities
In the district there is an elementary school , which however only accommodates two classes in the departmental teaching as a branch of the elementary school Pottenbrunn, as well as a kindergarten.
