history

The church of St. Margarethen was first mentioned in a document in 1204. The presbytery was built during the Gothic period and its interior, apart from the altar, has remained unchanged to this day. The predella , which depicts the adoration of the three kings with the baby Jesus, dates from this period . The current altar dates from 1660 and contains, in addition to a scene of the risen Christ, the figures of St. Margaret, St. Barbara, St. Appollonia and St. Gertrude. In 1862 a tower with a pointed roof was added and the nave was extended to the west. In 1946 and 1989 the church was completely restored. In the course of the 800th anniversary of the church, a lighting system was installed so that, due to the exposed location on the Sattnitz-Zug, it was visible far into the lower Rosental.
