Filipe José Couto

Filipe José Couto (born January 30, 1939 in Unango, Mozambique ) is a Mozambican theologian.

Couto attended the mission school in Massangulo in Mozambique from 1947 to 1954 and the high school in Fátima in Portugal from 1958 to 1962 . In 1962 he went to Italy and entered the Order of the Turin Missionaries (IMC). From 1964 to 1967 he studied philosophy in Rome. From 1967 to 1971 he studied Catholic theology at the University of Münster . With Karl Rahner he received his doctorate in theology. In 1969 he was ordained a Catholic priest in Lichinga . From 1976 to 1981 he taught at the University of Paderborn . From 1981 to 1983 he taught church history in Perarniho, Tanzania . From 1984 to 1987 he was pastor of Catedral de Nampula in Mozambique. From 1988 to 1993 he taught philosophy and theology at the Missionary Institute of London . From 1993 to 1996 he taught in Morogoro in Tanzania. Today he is Rector of the Universidate catolica de Mocambique.
