The Filippo Reef ( English Filippo Reef ) is a coral reef , which is about 450 kilometers east of Starbuck Island , and is one of the Central Polynesian Sporades .

The exact coordinates are 05 ° 30 ′ S, 151 ° 50 ′ W. The reef lies in shallow water. The water depth is estimated at only 0.6 m to 0.9 m. The reef has a diameter (from northwest to southeast) of 1.6 km. It was discovered by the crew of the Italian barque Filippo on June 28, 1886 and named after them.

The only other sighting took place in 1926, when the diameter was also estimated. Satellite-based measurements show water depths of over 5 km in the said region. It is therefore likely that it is a phantom island .
