The Fimbul Ice Shelf is an ice shelf off the Princess Martha Coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is 200 km long, about 100 km wide, is fed by the Jutulstraumen and floats between 3 ° east and west on the Lazarev Sea .

The first aerial photographs of the ice shelf were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939). Norwegian cartographers mapped it on the basis of geodetic surveys of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and with the help of aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). In Norwegian the ice shelf is called Fimbulisen , which means “big ice”.
