Fiorella Terenzi

Fiorella Terenzi is an Italian astrophysicist , author, and musician who became known for converting radio waves from space into music.

Life

Terenzi received his PhD from the University of Milan ; she studied opera and composition at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin . After completing her studies, she first taught mathematics and physics at the Liceo Scientifico in Milan. As part of her research at the Computer Audio Research Laboratory at the University of California, San Diego , she developed a method to convert the data from radio telescopes into sound. The result of this work is the 1991 album Music from the Galaxies.

The talk show host Dennis Miller coined the often-quoted expression that it is a “mixture of Carl Sagan and Madonna ”. In addition to her music, she became known to a wider audience through her book Heavenly Knowledge, in which she relates astronomy and human relationships, and through her interactive CD-ROM Invisible Universe, which combines music, poetry and astronomy.

She lives and works in the USA and resides in Los Angeles and Miami . She currently teaches astronomy at Brevard Community College in Cocoa (Florida) .
