Firidun Quliyev

Firidun Quliyev (also Guliyev or Gulijew ; born June 25, 1994 ) is an Azerbaijani weightlifter .

Career

Firidun Quliyev started lifting weights as a teenager. He's a student. He competed in his first international championships at the age of 15. He started in 2009 at the World Youth Championship in Chiangmai / Thailand and finished there in the weight class up to 56 kg with 191 kg (82-109) in a duel in 23rd place. In the same year he also took part in the European Youth Championship in Eilat. In the weight class up to 62 kg he achieved 205 kg (86-119) in a duel and thus reached 7th place. In 2010 he took second place in an IWF qualification competition for the I. Youth Olympics in Valencia in the weight class up to 62 kg with 252 kg (112-140). At the Youth Olympics in Singapore he was not used because there the starting places for each country were quoted and Azerbaijan sent different weightlifters than him to the start.

Firidun Quliyev won his first medals at international championships in 2011. He achieved at the European Junior Championships this year in Bucharest in a lightweight duel 303 kg (130-173) and won the bronze medal. With his performance in pushing of 173 kg, he even achieved the gold medal.

The year 2012 was very successful for Firidun Quliyev. At the Junior World Championships in Antigua he came in lightweight to 306 kg (130-176) and came in 5th place. With his shock performance of 176 kg, he became vice-junior world champion. In the same year he won at the European Junior Championships in Eilat with a duel performance of 316 kg (136-180) and his first duel title at an international championship. With his performance in pushing (180 kg) he also became Junior European Champion. In December 2012, he increased the lightweight in a duel to 330 kg (140-190) and won over Oleg Chen , Russia, 330 kg (155-175) and his compatriot Əfqan Bayramov , who came to 324 kg (141-183) .

In May 2013 Firidun Quliyev initially suffered a small setback. He came at the Junior World Championships in Lima in the lightweight only 308 kg (132-176) and thus took 3rd place. At the Universiade in Kazan in July 2013, he increased again to 323 kg (142-181), relegating Jaber Behrouzi , Iran, who came to 322 kg (147-175), to 2nd place. At the 2013 World Cup in Wrocław in October 2013, he continued to improve significantly. He achieved there in a duel 337 kg (143-194) and won the World Cup bronze medal with this performance. With his push of 194 kg, he set a new junior world record and won the World Cup silver medal. Only then did it become known that he had tested positive for doping substances during a training check four months before the World Championships . He was subsequently disqualified and banned for two years.
