The John Gerstäcker Publishing GmbH, short Gerstaecker, is a mail order art supply, studio equipment, framing and art textbooks in Germany , England , France , Austria , Italy , the Netherlands and Switzerland .

history

In 1953 the Johannes Gerstaecker Verlag was founded. In the early 1950s, the company's founder Johannes Gerstäcker initially specialized in the production and sale of educational art games for children of primary school age. A little later, the first sales structure for the mail order business was set up and further products were added to the range. Until today z. B. Soapstone is a widely used design tool in schools and therapeutic facilities.

The first catalogs appeared in the early 1960s and Michael Gerstäcker, son of the company founder and today managing partner , built a second warehouse directly at the Eitorf freight yard. In 1991, he and his brother Christian opened the new company headquarters in the Eitorf industrial park .

In 1999 Gerstaecker expanded and the French branch Le Géant des Beaux-Arts was founded in Saverne in northern Alsace. At the beginning of 2002, the English subsidiary GreatArt , which is based in Alton, an hour southwest of London , was added. In the same year, the artists' market was opened in Eitorf right next to the new logistics center. Further branches in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the Netherlands followed.

Headquarters / logistics center

In the course of 2001 a new logistics center was built in the industrial area in Eitorf , where the orders from the European branches are also processed. Today the total area is around 20,000 m² with 55,000 m 3 of storage space at a height of 11.5 m. 23 offices are located on three floors.

Subsidiaries / branches

In addition to its headquarters in Eitorf, from which the markets and online shops in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands are managed, the company has other European branches. These include the branches Le Géant des Beaux-Arts in Saverne for France, GreatArt in Alton for England, Gerstaecker Switzerland in Olten for Switzerland and Mondo Artista in Bozen for Italy. Gerstaecker employs around 250 people across Europe.

Mail order

The heart of the company is the worldwide shipping service, which is also controlled from Eitorf. An approx. 1400-page main catalog, a compact catalog, eight campaign brochures, two of which are specifically for schools, and a book brochure are published annually. Gerstaecker has a total of eight online shops. The entire range includes over 65,000 items.

Artists' markets

After the first artists' market opened at the headquarters in Eitorf in 2002, four more openings followed in Germany (in Hamburg, Bremen, Dresden, Munich and Karlsruhe), four in Austria (in Graz, Vorarlberg Dornbirn, Linz and Vienna), and one in the Netherlands (in The Hague), fourteen in France (in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Montpellier, Mulhouse, Nancy, Nantes, Nice, two in Paris, Rennes, Strasbourg, Strasbourg Koenigshoffen and in Toulouse) and one in England (in London).

On an average sales area of ​​1,800 m², the stores offer their own frame departments with workshop service, soapstone storage and specialist book departments with coffee and reading corners. In addition, professional courses, exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops take place there regularly.

Every year Johannes Gerstaecker Verlag is represented with a selection of artist materials at the major art and creative fairs . At various demonstrations and workshops, trade fair visitors can get to know the latest trends and techniques and try them out directly.
