The Fladder is a district of the municipality Holdorf in the district of Vechta . It is located in the northwest of the municipality and borders the municipalities of Gehrde , Badbergen and Neuenkirchen-Vörden . The Fladder was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1231, in connection with the municipality of Holdorf to which it belongs. However, it only got its official name when a post office was set up to better distinguish Fladder from Fladderlohausen.

history

origin

Originally the Fladder belonged to the Dersagau , from which the Dersaburg takes its name , even if at that time there was probably no settlement . The name of the Fladder comes from the Low German word "Fladder" or "Fledder", which means something like swampy grassland and shows the geographic characteristics that used to prevail here. The term "Fladder" for districts can be found all over northern Germany.

First settlement

The first major settlement took place in the late 18th century after the Fladderlohausener Mark was divided. This division of brands was mainly promoted in order to distribute the fertile fields in the Fladder to the farmers from Fladderlohausen and Grandorf, who then set up their wages here.

Political affiliations

Until 1827 the Fladder belonged administratively to the parish of Damme (Dümmer) . From 1827 Holdorf became an independent parish, and thus the Fladderaner residents now officially belonged to the parish of Holdorf. This meant self-government for all Catholic residents. From now on, the evangelical citizens in the Fladder were no longer just an appendage to the evangelical church in Neuenkirchen, they were now a parish in the parish and from 1827 kept their own parish registers.

From 1933 to 1945 the community of Holdorf and thus also the Fladder belonged to the greater community of Neuenkirchen, but this was reversed after the war.

Postal services

In August Bornhorst's colonial and manufactured goods store (* March 24, 1877, † August 16, 1966), a new post office with a telephone system was set up on August 30, 1929 . Most of the time, the apprentices were tasked with delivering the mail, which did not take too long due to the fact that 80% of the mail was for Bornhorst himself. Deliveries were made to 18 households every day; It often happened, however, that a household member took goods from the shop and took the mailbag or newspaper with them. After the end of the war, postal operations were resumed on July 1, 1945. Since there was no petrol yet, a messenger came by bicycle from Damme three times a week and exchanged mail. On March 28, 1949, the Bornhorst post office was closed and the Giere post office opened. Its official name was "Posthilfstelle Fladder, Post Fladderlohausen over Damme". The monthly pension payment was the most important task of postmaster Bernhard Giere (born November 28, 1892, † December 4, 1952). His successor until the post office closed on June 30, 1955 was his daughter Erna.
