The flag-tailed armored catfish ( Corydoras robineae ) is a freshwater ornamental fish of the genus Corydoras . It is native to the Rio Negro basin and grows 4 to 8 cm tall. It inhabits the lower regions of the water in small flocks. The peaceful fish is ideally suited for keeping in aquariums , but should not be socialized with aggressive bottom dwellers such as cichlids . Otherwise, care should be taken to ensure that the flag-tailed armored catfish find sufficient hiding places. As an intestinal breather , the catfish needs free access to the water surface; in captivity, it should not be kept in aquariums with sharp-edged pebbles as a substrate, because otherwise there is a risk of injuring the sensitive barbels , which are also sensory organs.
