Flash was an English progressive rock band active in the 1970s .

history

The group was founded in August 1971 by Peter Banks , who had just left the later very successful band Yes . In the winter of 1971/72 Flash recorded their first album , together with the former Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye , who shortly afterwards founded Badger . Attempts to replace Kaye with a new keyboardist ( Rick Wakeman and Patrick Moraz were in discussion) failed, so the band continued as a quartet and successfully gave concerts in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the USA. The increasingly rare keyboard passages were taken over by the singer Colin Carter.

The group was musically comparable to the early Yes and had a single hit with the title Small Beginnings . Of her first album, which was recorded by Martin Birch , she was able to sell over 100,000 copies.

As a result of waning success, Banks separated from the group in November 1973, which led to its dissolution. The third album, which was already completed by then, was released under the name Flash - featuring England's Peter Banks .

After several unsuccessful attempts at reunification, Flash appeared again in 2010 with a different line-up - without Banks.
