Badger is a Founded in 1972 British progressive - rock band .

After Tony Kaye (first keyboardist of Yes ) left the group Flash, which he had founded together with Peter Banks (also an original member of Yes), he founded in 1972 together with bassist David Foster , who was already together with Yes singer Jon Anderson had worked at The Warriors , the band Badger as his own "Progressive Supergroup". The band was complemented by the drummer Roy Dyke, a former member of the Remo Four , Family and Ashton, Gardner & Dyke , with whom he recorded the world hit Resurrection Shuffle in 1971 . The fourth member was Brian Parrish, formerly Medicine Head (where he already met Roy Dyke), Three Man Army and Paul Gurvitz.

The debut album "One Live Badger" from 1973 contained, similar to the first Yes albums, long instrumental pieces, which, however, did not meet the taste of the audience. Looking for new inspiration, Kaye and Dyke found ex- Stealers Wheel guitarist Paul Pilnick, who replaced Foster. At the same time, Dyke's old companion Kim Gardner was hired as a bassist. The search for a front man and songwriter ended with Jackie Lomax from Liverpool, who previously worked with The Undertakers . and as a solo artist on the Beatles label Apple Records . Lomax transformed Badger from a progressive rock band to a soul-oriented R&B band and wrote all the songs for the band's second LP "White Lady" from 1974. The album was recorded in New Orleans in the studio of producer Allen Toussaint , but dissolved the band opened up for the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) after performing at Croydon's Fairfield Hall .

After that, Lomax returned to his solo career and recorded more albums for Capitol and Warner Brothers . As a studio musician, he worked with Rod Stewart on the "Foolish Behavior" LP. Roy Dyke can be found on projects at Cafe Society with Pat Travers and Chris Barber , while Tony Kaye member returned to Yes in 1983 after brief appearances on The Detectives and Badfinger . Paul Pilnick is active in groups such as Deaf School and Joe Egan , Kim Gardner is session bassist with Dwight Twilley .
