The Flat Rock Wildlife Sanctuary is a 326 acres (1.3 square kilometers ) comprehensive protected area in Fitchburg in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
The sanctuary, only a few minutes' drive from Fitchburg city center, is a popular local recreation area and offers a habitat for animals that need comparatively large territories. These include, for example, fishing martens , coyotes and foxes , but also lynx and black bears . A total of 6 mi (9.7 km ) of hiking trails are available to visitors. Immediately adjacent are other protected areas of the North County Land Trust and the Fitchburg Water Department .
