Flavio Tosi (born June 18, 1969 in Verona ) is an Italian politician .

The trained computer scientist was elected to the city council of Verona in 1994 in the ranks of the Lega Nord . At the same time, he also took over the chairmanship of the Lega Nord in the city council. In 1997 he was appointed chairman of the Liga Veneta, a section of the Lega Nord, in the province of Verona . In April 2000 was elected to the regional council of the Veneto region . In the same year he took over the chairmanship of the Liga Veneta in the regional council, which he held until 2002. In 2004 he ran for President of the Provincial Council of the Province of Verona, but received only 13% of the vote. In 2005, after his re-election to the regional council, he was appointed health assessor for the Veneto region.

In 2007 Tosi was elected mayor of Verona , supported by the Lega Nord and the Alleanza Nazionale . When he was elected mayor, he also gave up his position as assessor in the region. Tosi was Mayor of Verona for two terms from May 28, 2007 to June 27, 2017. During his tenure, his law and order policy made headlines. His first measures included the closure of a Sinti and Roma camp and the evacuation of a former kindergarten in the city that was illegally occupied by left-wing groups. His more well-known official acts as mayor included, among other things, the fight against street prostitution , the ban on smoking in public parks to protect children, the ban on consuming food in front of monuments and monuments of the city and a ban on alcohol consumption in public parks and squares.

At the beginning of the 2010s, Tosi was one of the most popular mayors in Italy, alongside Matteo Renzi , then Mayor of Florence , according to surveys.

In July 2014, Tosi was elected as a member of the European Parliament , but gave up this seat in the same month.

In March 2015, he was expelled from the Lega Nord after considering his own candidacy as the top candidate in the regional council elections against the opposition of Matteo Salvini and the top candidate he supported, Luca Zaia . He then ran under his own list, but received just over 11% of the vote.

For the 2018 parliamentary elections , he founded the Noi con l'Italia list in December 2017 with Maurizio Lupi , Francesco Saverio Romano , Raffaele Fitto and others , which failed in the parliamentary elections because of the 3% threshold.
