Levi Houkes (born October 2, 1991 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tilburg Trappers since 2015 , which plays as the Dutch team in the German Oberliga Nord .
Career
Clubs
Levi Houkes began his career as an ice hockey player at Krefelder EV on the other side of the German-Dutch border, for whom he made his debut in the German youth league at the age of 15 . In 2008 he returned to his hometown and played for two years with the Nijmegen Devils in the honor division . With the devils, he won the Dutch cup competition in 2009 and the country’s championship title a year later . Despite these successes, he left Nijmegen in 2010 and played one season each in The Hague , Eindhoven and again in The Hague in the following years . With HYS The Hague he won the Belgian-Dutch North Sea Cup in 2011 and the national championship title in 2013. From 2013 to 2015 he was on the ice with the Friesland Flyers from Heerenveen . He then moved to the Tilburg Trappers , who have been participating in the German Oberliga Nord since 2015 . With the team from the province of North Brabant , he won the German league championship straight away in 2016. A promotion to the DEL2 was not possible for Tilburg as a Dutch team.
International
For the Netherlands, Houkes took part in the games of the U18 World Cup in Division II 2007 and 2009 and Division I in 2008 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2011 in Division II.
He made his debut for the men's national team at the World Championship Division I in 2009 . He was also on the ice for the Dutch in Division I at the 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 and 2015 World Championships .
In the Olympic qualification for the Games in Sochi 2014, which took place in November 2012 and February 2013 , he also played for his colors. The Dutch managed to survive the first qualifying round after victories against Croatia , Lithuania and hosts Hungary , but then suffered significant defeats in the decisive second round against Austria , Germany and Italy .
