Wickerwork designer is a state-recognized training occupation in accordance with the Vocational Training Act and Crafts Code .

Since August 1, 2006, the profession has replaced the basket-maker apprenticeship . The history of this craft goes back to the Middle Stone Age . Wickerwork designers manufacture baskets , wicker furniture and art objects by weaving materials such as B. willow branches or rattan .

education

The center of the German weaving trade is the city of Lichtenfels , where the only technical school for basket weaving in Germany is located and the basket market takes place every September . The training to become a wickerwork designer is available on a dual or school-based basis. While the trainees receive a training allowance in the dual training, the school training is not paid.

The dual training to become a wickerwork designer usually lasts three years. In the first year of training, the focus is primarily on imparting manual skills, while creative work is also promoted in the other two years. This includes, for example, making drawings by hand on the computer.
