Elsbeth Wiards

The Flender Werke motor ship 10,000 tdw was a general cargo ship type of the Lübeck Flender-Werke that could be used universally . It was built in eleven units between 1951 and 1958.

history

In the 1950s, the Lübeck Flender Werke constructed a ship design that was equally suitable for use in trampoline and line trips and for the transport of bulk and general cargo. The series was built in nine units for various German shipping companies. In 1951 the shipyard delivered the type ship Elsbeth Wiards to the Bremen shipping company Wiards. By 1958, eight new buildings of the type with a load capacity of 10,000 tons followed, the data of which differed slightly in later versions.

technology

The ships, around 147 meters long and 18.20 meters wide on frames, had five holds with a bulk cargo volume of 16,868 m 3 . The built-in MAN K5Z 70/120 main engines with 3000 PS allowed a speed of about 12 knots , later buildings were given mostly more powerful engines of the types MAN K5Z 70 / 120A with 3300 PS, or MAN K6Z 70/120 with 3600 or 4000 PS, the higher speeds allowed. The basic design of the ships with superstructures amidships and the conventional loading gear did not differ fundamentally from contemporary liner freighters such as the Emden type .
