The Flettner Fl 265 was a test helicopter from Anton Flettner .

The helicopter was developed in 1938 with the support of the German Navy . With the Fl 265 it was possible for the first time to switch from helicopter mode to gyroplane mode and back in flight . This made the Fl 265 the safest helicopter of its time. In contrast to the Fl 185 , the Fl 265 had two intermeshing rotors, each 12 meters in diameter. A BMW Bramo Sh 14 A with 160 hp was used as the drive. Six test samples were made.
The well-known test pilot Richard Perlia carried out the first flight with the Fl 265 in 1939.
In 1940 and 1941, tests of a Flettner Fl 265 were carried out on the light cruiser Cologne ; a landing platform was built on tower B for this purpose. Flettner's chief test pilot, Ludwig Hofmann , landed and took off several times on the platform with the Fl 265 V4. These flight maneuvers were part of a demonstration in front of high-ranking officers of the Reich Aviation Ministry and the High Command of the Navy , including General Luftzeugmeister Ernst Udet and Admiral Otto Schniewind . The aviation historian Steve Coates writes: "In further tests Hofmann was able to demonstrate the sea rescue potential of the Fl 265: Inflatable boats were pulled ashore and dolls were flown ashore." Admiral Schniewind then pushed for the further development of the Fl 265. However, series production was in favor of the Flettner Fl 282 withdrawn.
