The fly swatter (Austrian. Fliegenpracker , ostösterr. Flying trouble , bairisch fly splasher / Fliangbatscha or Fliangduscher , fränkisch Muggnbadscher , badisch Muggedatscher / Muggebatscher , pfälzisch Miggeblädsch ) is used, in particular flying insects to kill by a string. Their inexpensive and non-toxic effect is advantageous.

Technical development

The first plastic constructions were registered for a patent (CH 324403A) by the Stuttgart inventor Erich Schumm as early as 1953 ; Despite its simple construction, the fly swatter has challenged the inventors up to the present day. It was always felt to be disadvantageous that the insects were usually crushed when they were swatted with the fly swatter and their body fluids could be absorbed by absorbent surfaces, such as B. wallpaper, permanently contaminated. Developments followed in which the insect was pressed, but the elasticity of the swatter prevented the insect from bleeding out (for example patent DE 20 2004 015 770). Other developments concerned the size of the fly swatter. An inventor has developed a particularly compact form (example patent DE 29812166) with which insects can also be hit in winding hiding places.

Furthermore, electric fly swatters have been developed to counteract the disadvantages of conventional fly swatters. They usually consist of one or more round or oval, electrically conductive nets that are surrounded by an electrically insulating edge. A battery in the handle applies high voltage to the network or networks so that insects are killed by an electric shock if touched .
