Flight information area
A flight information region (engl. Flight Information Region , FIR ) is a defined air space, in which at least flight information and alerting service offered. Each part of the atmosphere is assigned to exactly one FIR. As a rule, it is congruent with the national territory of the respective country, but can also include international waters (by allocation by the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO ). Likewise, the airspace over a national territory can be divided into several FIRs.
In general, each FIR is at least one area control center (ACC Area Control Center assigned). Your air traffic controllers carry out the traffic control and inform the pilots and assign them suitable routes and altitudes for the cruise flight as well as arrivals and departures. The "handover" of the aircraft to the next FIR is regulated by clear procedures.
Proposed Flight Information Service (FIS = Flight Information Service ) is in controlled as uncontrolled airspace for flights to visual flight - (VFR = Visual Flight Rules ) as for flights to instrument flight rules (IFR = Instrument Flight Rules ) are available.

Germany
Since 2006, Germany has been divided into 3 lower flight information areas (FIR, English: Flight Information Region ) and 2 upper flight information areas (UIR, English: Upper Flight Information Region ):

The Bodanrück , Singen , Engen and the Hochrhein ( Waldshut-Tiengen area ), on the other hand, belong to FIR Switzerland ( LSAS ) (as of 2013).
Swiss and Austria
The Switzerland belongs entirely to the FIR Switzerland ( LSAS ), Austria all the way to Vienna FIR ( lovv ).
