The Northwestern Switzerland Tariff Association ( TNW ) is an integral tariff association and covers the entire region of Northwestern Switzerland . The Baselland Transport AG is the managing company in the fare network.

history

In 1978 Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) and Baselland Transport AG (BLT) founded a tariff association. The fares were adjusted and with just one ticket - depending on the destination - it was possible to switch from one company to the other. In 1980 this association was expanded into an integral BVB / BLT tariff association. In 1984 an environmental protection subscription was launched. Today called U-Abo for short. The U-Abo is still a milestone in the development of public transport.

On June 1, 1987, the TNW was founded as the first integral tariff association in Switzerland . In the TNW network area, subscription, single tickets and multi-trip tickets are uniformly regulated. The enormous success of the U-subscription was an important trigger for the establishment of the TNW. In 2006, more than 2 million U-subscriptions were sold for the first time. During its period of validity, it is valid in the entire network area without any spatial or temporal restrictions. It is transferable or can be purchased as a personal subscription.

expansion

Geographical expansion

The TNW area covers an area of 1,101 km² and is therefore one of the largest in Switzerland. The TNW area consists of 163 municipalities, which are spread over five cantons or one department in two states:

In addition, the TNW also extends to the toll-free route from Basel to Basel-Mulhouse Airport, which is on French soil .

Validity according to means of transport

The Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB), Baselland Transport AG (BLT), Waldenburgerbahn (WB) and Autobus AG Liestal (AAGL) are connected to the TNW via the entire network . The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), SBB GmbH and PostAuto Schweiz AG are also connected to the TNW with their respective route network within the geographical extent of the TNW . The TNW tickets are valid for all regular rates, i.e. for SBB and SBB GmbH also on long-distance connections. This also applies to the international trains operated by Deutsche Bahn in the area of the Basel connecting line between the two Basel train stations, as this is part of the SBB.

For long-distance connections of the SBB, however, the tickets are only valid up to the last train station in the TNW area where the train stops according to the schedule. For example, TNW tickets and network passes (U-Abo) are valid on the Basel - Olten route in the S-Bahn to Tecknau and in Interregio trains to Sissach or Gelterkinden , but not at all on Intercity / Eurocity trains, as these between Do not stop in Basel and Olten (except for those IC / EC with an intermediate stop in Liestal , where tickets are valid on the Basel-Liestal route). For journeys from the last train station in the TNW area, connecting tickets can be purchased before starting the journey.

deals

The entire TNW area has been divided into different zones and the tariff is usually based on the number of zones passed through.

  • Single tickets are issued for individual journeys over short distances and for 1 to 8 zones. Depending on the number of zones, they are valid for 30 minutes to 4 hours and entitle you to a single journey.
  • Holiday passes are issued by different regions in the TNW during the school holidays in summer and autumn and entitle you to an unlimited number of trips in all zones of the TNW within the period of validity.
  • Group tickets are issued for joint travel by at least 10 people, whereby holders of 1/2 price subscriptions / Railcard, schools, children from 6 to 16 years and dogs receive a reduced group price.
  • Multi- trip tickets are issued for 6 single trips for short journeys and for 1 to 8 zones. Depending on the number of zones, a validation is valid for between 30 minutes to 4 hours and entitles you to a single journey.
  • S-tickets (special tickets) are available for certain occasions according to the special announcement. These are special tickets with a reduced tariff for outward and return journeys and are valid until the end of business on the day of issue.
  • Day tickets are available as a center day pass and mobility ticket (given to every hotel guest when staying overnight in Basel) for the center zones 10, 11, 13 (EuroAirport) and 15 and as a TNW day pass for trips throughout the TNW (available for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 days). The day ticket is valid during the period of validity printed on it or, in the case of tickets purchased in advance, from the time of validation until the last day closes.
  • TriRegio ticket entitles you to travel in the border triangle of northwestern Switzerland , the district of Lörrach ( RVL ) and parts of Alsace ( Distribus and SNCF route Basel - Mulhouse) and is valid for 24 hours throughout the TNW from issue or stamping. There is also the TriRegio-Mini ticket, which is only available in the TNW in central zones 10, 11, 13 (EuroAirport) and 15, in the RVL in zones 1, 2, 3 and 8, as well as in the Alsatian District des Trois Frontières and on the TER line is valid to Bartenheim .
  • Association subscriptions (called environmental protection subscriptions, or U subscriptions for short) are issued for the use of all zones of the TNW and are impersonal or available in person. Children from 6 to 16 years of age, young people over 16 to 25 years of age, seniors of AHV age, disabled people and dogs can get reduced group subscriptions. They are issued for 1 year or for 1 month. The subscriptions can be paid annually or monthly, whereby the receipt section of the special payment slip counts as a subscription.

TNW night network

The TNW has been operating a night network since December 2008, in cooperation with the individual companies. A surcharge had to be paid for use in addition to the normal fare, but this was abolished when the timetable changed in December 2011. The TNW is thus the first tariff association in Switzerland to remove the night surcharge.

The night tram lines N6 and N14 as well as N10 and N11 are operationally linked. At Barfüsserplatz, resp. Theater, the courses mutate according to their line number. In theory, this enables a transfer-free journey between Pratteln and Riehen border and between Ettingen and Reinach Süd.
