from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aschaffenburg raft harbor regatta was a canoe and dragon boat regatta that took place annually from 2003 to 2016 . The competition route was on the Main , below Johannisburg Castle , on the "Perth Inch" part of the Main embankment promenade named after the Scottish twin town of Perth . The event was organized by the canoe department of the SSKC Poseidon 06 e. V. Aschaffenburg. The event was held for the first time in 2003. On the two regatta days in mid-June / early July, up to 1,800 participants from around 100 teams and clubs took part in the competitions.

Canoe regatta

From 2003 to 2005 the canoe regatta was held over two days over 200 and 500 meters. From 2006 the canoe races were only run over the 200 meters on Sundays.

The award ceremony took place immediately after the race. The first three boats were honored. As a rule, an honorary prize was awarded for first place.

Dragon boat FrankenCup

In addition to the canoe regatta, dragon boat races were also held . While in 2003 only two boats measured each other at the same time, in 2004 three boats and from 2005 four dragon boats were able to compare each other. Because of the small width of the raft harbor, no other boats could start.

Starting classes

Since the beginning of the event, the starting classes offered have been continuously expanded. The number of participating teams was limited and in 2007 teams had to be refused entry for the first time.

  • Fun: The fun starting class existed from 2003 to 2007. All teams that did not move the dragon boat regularly were allowed to start in this class. The criteria were later specified. The participating team was allowed to use a maximum of two active canoeists or dragon boaters, have no company dragon boat sports group and not be a member of a DKV or DDV club.

From 2008 this starting class was divided.

  • Fun Open: From 2008 this class replaced the former star class Fun.
  • Fun Mix: The starting class, which emerged from the Fun class in 2008, was based on its criteria. However, at least six women had to actively paddle along in this class.
  • Women: In order to preserve the chance for women's teams, the organizer had launched its own starting class in 2005. Starting in 2005 as part of the fun class, the women have only competed among themselves since 2006.
  • Sports: For teams that train regularly, the starting class was sports. This existed since 2003. In 2005 Bavarian championships were held in this class.
  • Bavarian Championships: In 2005, beyond the 200 meters and the 500 meters at the 3rd Dragon Boat Cup francs Bavarian Championships held.

Dragon boat school cup

At the same time as the canoe regatta became a school sprint regatta, the Dragon Boat School Cup for schools in and around Aschaffenburg was created in 2006. The dragon boat races were held together with the canoe regatta.

Starting classes

The Dragon Boat SchoolCup was divided into two age groups. It was irrelevant whether a team actually consisted of a school class or a selection of students from one grade.

  • Grades 8 and 9: In this starting class, the 8th and 9th grade students who had reached at least the 14th year of age were allowed to start.
  • Grades 10 to 13: This starting class was aimed at older students up to and including the age of 20.
