Flora Steiger-Crawford
Flora Steiger-Crawford (born September 1, 1899 in Bombay ; † July 30, 1991 in Zurich ) was a Swiss architect , furniture designer and sculptor . She was the first certified architect in Switzerland.

Flora Steiger-Crawford was the daughter of the electrical engineer Archibald Allan Crawford and Marie Elisabeth Veillon. She was married to the architect Rudolf Steiger and was the mother of the architects Martin Steiger and Peter Steiger . Her sister Lily Crawford (1896–1979) was married to the writer Rudolf Jakob Humm .
Flora Steiger-Crawford found her final resting place in the Witikon cemetery .

The versatile Flora Steiger-Crawford was the first female architect in Switzerland. She studied with Karl Moser at the ETH Zurich . Together with her husband Rudolf Steiger, she opened an architecture office in 1924. The Sandreuter House in Basel, built jointly in 1924, is considered the first example of New Building in Switzerland.
She was involved in most of the community projects but increasingly focused on designing single family homes and interiors. She also developed furniture, such as the stacking chair for the Zett house . In 1938 she retired from the architectural profession and devoted herself entirely to her sculptural work. Her autobiographical notes bear witness to the pioneering days of Swiss modernism.
