Florapark (Magdeburg)
The Flora-Park garden is a public park of the city of Magdeburg . Until 2004 the park was called Bördegarten .
The park is located in the north-western part of the city in the Neustädter Feld district and has a size of 42 hectares (including an allotment garden).
The park was built between 1989 and 1994, making it one of the youngest in the city. The park is divided into an eastern and a western part by the wooden path . The wood path itself is lined on both sides by a double row of ornamental cherries , which are particularly noticeable during the flowering in spring.
In the western area there are pond, rose, perennial and cottage gardens, as well as a small pond. The eastern part of the park is dominated by a hill and has a large children's playground.
Until 2004, the park was named Bördegarten based on the Magdeburger Börde . At the request of the operator of the neighboring Florapark shopping center , the city council then renamed the park "Flora-Park Garten". Park and shopping center are now called similarly (although these sometimes differ in the exact spelling).
The decision of the city council with regard to the "renaming on request" was controversial. In particular, the council groups Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and future! - the youth party had spoken out against the renaming.
The name of the shopping center Flora-Park is based on the nursery originally located in the shopping center area .
