Florea Mitrănescu

Florea Mitrănescu ( February 9, 1886 - February 21, 1944 ) was a Romanian general in World War II . During the war he commanded the VII Army Corps of the 4th Army .

Life

On May 23, 1923 he became a lieutenant colonel . From October 1, 1924 to May 10, 1925 he was chief of staff of the 8th Infantry Division. From July 1, 1925 to April 1, 1926 he was in command of the 6th Mountain Battalion. On April 1, 1937, he was promoted to Brigadier General and on June 8, 1940 to Major General. During the retreat from Bessarabia he was in command of the 19th Infantry Division. On March 25, 1941, he took over the command of the VII Army Corps, which only followed after the start of Operation Barbarossa across the Prut .

During Operation Trappenjagd his troops (Romanian 10th and 19th Infantry Divisions and 8th Cavalry Brigade) reinforced the attack of the German XXXXII. Corps (General of Infantry Mattenklott ) on the Kerch Peninsula . On July 18, 1942, he was promoted to the rank of General de armata and followed the German 6th Army to the Volga sector, where his corps was destroyed in Operation Uranus in November 1942 . From March 20, 1943 he led the VI. Army Corps and then from September 16, 1943 again the VII Army Corps. He was killed on February 21, 1944 in renewed defensive battles against the Soviet troops at the front.
