Florian Spalteholz

Florian Spalteholz (born March 4, 1977 in Hamburg ) is a German sailor.

Spalteholz studied architecture after graduating from high school. His sporting career began at the age of eight when he gained his first sailing experience in an optimist . In 1991 he became the German Puppy Champion. Four years later, the first German championship title followed in the 420 boat class together with Geerit Kirchner . Another title followed in 2003.

Spalteholz has been sailing in tornado with Johannes Polgar since autumn 2004 . The two had come together in a training camp after Polgar had lost his sailing partner Carsten Happel after losing the elimination for the Summer Olympics .

The first mutual success was a fourth place in the 2005 world championships in front of La Rochelle . They confirmed this success the following year with a sixth place at the World Cup in San Isidro, Argentina . In 2007 they won the Kiel Week regatta and came fourth in the pre-Olympic regatta off Qingdao .

In August 2008 both took part in the Summer Olympics and finished eighth. In preparation they were supervised by the business psychologist Norbert Harlander .
