Johannes Polgar
Johannes Polgar (born August 25, 1977 in Olpe ) is a German sailor.
Polgar grew up in the Sauerland community of Wenden . He got into sailing through a holiday course on Lake Biggesee . In 1986 he joined the Yacht Club Lister on Lake Biggesee and competed in his first regattas in the Optimist . In 1990 he won the German Opti Nationals. In 1993/94 he briefly sailed in a Europe , but then switched to the Tornado boat class .
Together with his long-time sailing partner Carsten Happel , he reached fourth place at the 1997 World Championships off Bermuda . This was followed by other good placements at world and European championships. In 2000, both became German champions for the first time. After losing elimination for the Summer Olympics , Polgar lost his sailing partner, who wanted to concentrate on his professional career as an architect. In a training camp he got together with Florian Spalteholz , with whom he has formed a team since autumn 2004.
The first mutual success was a fourth place in the 2005 world championships in front of La Rochelle . They confirmed this success the following year with a sixth place at the World Cup in San Isidro, Argentina . In 2007 they won the Kiel Week regatta and came fourth in the pre-Olympic regatta off Qingdao . In August 2008 both took part in the Summer Olympics and finished eighth there. In preparation they were supervised by the business psychologist Norbert Harlander .
In the 2009 season, Polgar joined the German sailing professional Tim Kröger as a bow in the Olympic boat class Star. Because Polgar and Kröger were both born on August 25th, they named their Olympic campaign "JT2508". Polgar had already started in the star boat at the Kieler Woche 2008, back then with Nils Holweg on the bow. In August 2009, Polgar and Kröger separated.
With Markus Koy , Polgar became the European Starboat Champion in 2010, and in February 2011 the two were named “Team of the Year” at the Hamburg Sports Gala .
Polgar studied business administration at the University of Oldenburg , and later worked as a sports marketing coordinator at Audi . Polgar starts for the North German Regatta Club from Hamburg . He is married to the sailor Kathrin Kadelbach .
