Hamburg sports gala
Since 2006, the best athletes from Hamburg have been honored at the Hamburg Sports Gala . The awards are given by the Hamburg Senate , the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce , the Hamburger Sportbund , ECE (since 2016), the Hamburger Abendblatt and the NDR (since 2016). Vattenfall was a partner of the event from 2006 to 2015 and Hamburg 1 from 2008 to 2015. From 2006 to 2015 the gala took place in the stock exchange hall in the spring . Since 2016, the awards have been presented in December in the Volksbank Arena .

A jury will make a preselection, which will be presented to the readers of the Hamburger Abendblatt. 50 percent of the jury and reader votes are each included in the evaluation. After a break in 2015, the event was redesigned in 2016; There were no longer any different categories for choosing athletes. From 2017 there was a category for individual athletes and for teams, and the honorary award was again awarded. In 2019, athletes were again elected separately.

SportMerkur
As part of the Hamburger Sportgala, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce also honored companies from the Hamburg Metropolitan Region for their extraordinary commitment to sport. The categories were “large company”, “small company” and “ company sport ”. There was no clear definition based on “hard” criteria; Sales, total assets and the number of employees gave indications for the categorization. In 2007 and 2010 there was no subdivision, instead a particularly outstanding company received the award.
Criteria for awarding the SportMerkur were continuity, concrete successes, employee involvement, quantity (in relation to size) and successful cooperation with clubs, associations etc. A jury made up of representatives from sport and business decided on the companies to be awarded.
