Together with the deficits in the following years, there was a loss of around EUR 17 million by the end of 2014. The 2015 financial year resulted in a loss of 15 million euros. The equity ratio fell from 28.7% in the 2010/11 financial year to 16.7% (2015).

As a listed company, financial communication has been the responsibility of the CFO of Fenix Outdoor International AG since 2015 .

Company history

Since Globetrotter Equipment was founded in September 1979, branches have been opened across Germany. In 2007 and 2012, the adventure stores in Cologne and Munich were awarded the “Store of the Year” award (Out of Line category) by the German Retail Association (HDE).

With the takeover of the competitor Bernd Woick GmbH in January 2014, branches were added in Filderstadt, Metzingen and Ulm.

In November 2014 it was announced that Globetrotter Zubehör GmbH will become part of the retail holding company Frilufts Retail Europe AB alongside Naturkompaniet (Sweden) and Partioaitta (Finland) . The majority shareholder with 60% was the Swedish outdoor multi-channel retail group Fenix Outdoor AB . The previous shareholders remained involved with 40%. In mid-2015, Fenix Outdoor AB also took over the shares of the previous owners in Frilufts . In return, they were involved in the overall Fenix group. In the course of the sale, Ulf Ove Gustafsson was appointed managing director on June 10, 2015. The previous managing director Philip von Melle left the company on September 15, 2015, and Thomas Lipke at the end of 2015.

On January 1, 2016, Henrik Hoffman (Chief Executive Officer of Naturkompaniet AB and CEO of Frilufts Retail Europe AB) was appointed Managing Director at Globetrotter. Angela Rux took over the management of finances, controlling, human resources and administration at Globetrotter Equipment on March 1st, 2016. At the same time, she resigned from her position as managing director and switched to the position of authorized signatory at Globetrotter Versicherung GmbH.

For economic reasons, the branch in Filderstadt and the outlet in Frankfurt were closed in 2016. In April 2017 Globetrotter announced that it would establish a new branch format. Two branches of a more compact size were opened in downtown locations in Düsseldorf and Hamburg.

At the end of 2017 it was announced that Globetrotter would completely close its central warehouse at the Rahlstedt location and move to Ludwigslust in Mecklenburg. About 150 employees in Hamburg are affected. The reason is that the company is outsourcing its logistics department and transferring it to the newly founded subsidiary Fenix Outdoor Logistics GmbH . Globetrotter did offer all employees continued employment after the move in autumn 2018 on the same terms, but in Ludwigslust, a good 100 kilometers from their current location. The branch in Metzingen was also closed in September 2018.

As part of a new expansion strategy, new so-called city branches were opened in Hanover, Karlsruhe, Leipzig, Nuremberg and Regensburg in 2019. These have smaller sales areas than the previous experience branches.

Media use

In 1984 dispatch and the catalog (initially published annually, from 1986 semi-annually), the so-called manual, were introduced. The edition of the manual was 700,000 copies in 2013. In addition, the web TV broadcaster 4-Seasons.TV , the websites Reiseberichte.com and outdoor.de as well as the outdoor community portal 4-Seasons.de offer information on all things outdoor and travel. The customer magazine 4 Seasons , which appeared four times a year, was the highest-circulation outdoor magazine in Europe with a minimum circulation of 400,000 copies. In the course of a restructuring of the brand, in addition to a new logo and a new key color, instead of the orange, the Globetrotter manual with the 4-Seasons magazine was combined to form the Globetrotter magazine .
