Dorothee Vieth (born October 12, 1960 in Hamburg ) is a former German handbiker . She started in class H5 .
Life
In 2002 Dorothee Vieth had an accident with her scooter; since then her legs and part of her buttocks have been paralyzed. She competed in her first handbike competition in 2005, and two years later won her first medal at the UCI World Paracycling Road Championships . At the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing , she was third in the individual time trial and in the road race , and in 2011 she was world champion in the road race. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London , she won silver in the individual time trial and bronze in the road race; four years later at the games in Rio de Janeiro she won the gold medal in the individual time trial and bronze in the road race.
After winning the gold medal in Rio, Vieth announced that she would probably stay active for another season but would no longer start at the Paralympics. After a European Cup race in Elzach in July 2017 , Vieth ended her active career.
Dorothee Vieth is a violinist and violin teacher by profession. In 2009 she was voted Hamburg's Sportswoman of the Year .
