Florida State Prison
The Florida State Prison ( FSP ), formerly known under the name "Florida State Prison-East Unit", is an American state prison in Bradford County , Florida . The prison is located at Florida State Road 16 , approximately 15 km northwest of Starke . It opened in 1961 and completed in 1968. With a capacity of 1,400 inmates, it is one of the largest prisons in Florida. It includes one of three Florida state execution sites. Both women and men are executed in the prison.
Execution by lethal injection has been the standard method of execution since 2000 . If desired, the delinquent can also be executed using the electric chair . The FSP is in close proximity to other prisons: the New River Correctional Institution, the New River O-Unit, the FSP West Unit, and the Union Correctional Institution.
