Florin Cîțu

Florin Cîțu (born April 1, 1972 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian politician of the PNL .

Cîțu was born in Bucharest. After school, he attended Grinnell College in the USA, majoring in economics and mathematics. He completed his bachelor's degree in economics from Grinnell College in 1996. He then studied macroeconomics and international economics at Iowa State University . After receiving his master's degree in economics, he also received his PhD in macroeconomics and international economics from Iowa State University. From 1997 to 2001 he was also a lecturer at the university.

Florin Cîțu then worked at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand until 2003 and at the European Investment Bank from 2003 to 2005 . Subsequently, he was chief economist and later head of the financial markets department at ING-DiBa Bank in Bucharest. Cîțu was a consultant and business analyst from 2011. In 2016 he was elected to the Senate of Romania .

On November 4, 2019, he became Minister of Finance in the Ludovic Orban I cabinet . In 2020, three weeks after the overthrow of the Florin Cîțu government, President Klaus Iohannis tasked the formation of a new government. However, the Romanian Prime Minister-designate Florin Cîțu withdrew his candidacy on March 12, 2020 a few hours before the parliamentary vote.
