Floyd Cardoz
Floyd Cardoz (born October 2, 1960 in Mumbai , † March 24, 2020 in Montclair , New Jersey ) was an Indian-American chef and multi-restaurateur.
Life
Cardoz grew up in Mumbai, India, and trained at the Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Crans-Montana in the Swiss canton of Valais . From 1988 he worked in New York. In 1998 he founded the Indian restaurant Tabla with Danny Meyer (USHG) and took over the management of Meyer's North End Grill , later also the Pao Walla in New York's trendy Soho district and the Bombay Bread Bar . In Mumbai he ran the Bombay Canteen , the O Pedro or the Bombay Sweet Shop .
He also became internationally known through his appearance in the Netflix cult series Ugly Delicious by David Chang . In 2011, he was the winner of the Top Chef Masters TV cooking show . He has been nominated five times for the James Beard Foundation Award , an award for the best chef in the United States.
He died in March 2020 at the age of 59 during the COVID-19 pandemic at Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair, New Jersey, of complications from a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
