The Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport ( IATA : BTJ , ICAO : WITT ) is close to the provincial capital Banda Aceh , Province of Aceh in the district of Aceh Besar on the island of Sumatra . It was named after the twelfth Sultan of Aceh and is both the only international and the largest airport in Aceh Province. The airport is also known by its old name as Blang Bintang Airport.

The airport has a total of three terminals , two of which are used as passenger terminals and one is used exclusively for air freight handling.

The airport has a 3000 meter long asphalt runway that is approved for aircraft up to a size of Boeing 747-400 .
