The Rikenellaceae are a family of bacteria . The type genus is Rikenella . It is named after the Riken Institute in Japan.

Appearance

The cells are rod-shaped . You are straight or, z. B. Alistipes , slightly curved. Spores are not formed. The size of Alistipes is in the range of 0.2 to 0.9 µm in diameter and 0.5 to 4 µm in length, for Anaerocella 0.5 to 0.6 µm in width and 1.5 to 2.5 µm in Length.

Growth and metabolism

All species are anaerobic . The metabolism takes place via fermentation and is chemo-organotrophic . Some products of the fermentation of glucose from Rikenella are propionic acid , succinyl acid (succinic acid), acetic acid and small amounts of alcohols , from Alistipes succinyl acid and small amounts of acetic acid. Anaerocella produces isobutanoic acid , among other things .

Occurrence

Rikenella was isolated in the feces of chickens and calves , and alistipes from the intestines of humans and various animals.

Systematics

The family of the Rikenellaceae is placed in the order Bacteroidales in the department of Bacteroidetes . Some genera:
