The Taba International Airport is an Egyptian airport near the border town of Taba and is located approx. 16 km from the city center, directly on the Israeli border.

history

From 1972 to 1982 the airfield was laid out and operated as the Etzion military airfield by the Israeli Air Force , as Israel occupied the Sinai Peninsula after the successes of the Six Day War . The Israeli attack on the Iraqi nuclear reactor Osirak on June 7, 1981 as part of Operation Opera was flown from the Etzion base. Shortly afterwards he was given up as part of the Camp David Agreement and Israel's withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula, and his units were relocated to the newly built military airfield in Ovda .

Airlines and Destinations

Taba Airport is mainly served by charter airlines. Destinations include Manchester and London Gatwick . Due to the low number of passengers in Taba, the Egyptian airline Egypt Air has suspended its flight operations until further notice. From November 2013 Sunexpress will be flying to Germany on behalf of the tour operator FTI Taba. The flights are offered from Düsseldorf , Munich , Frankfurt am Main , Cologne / Bonn , Stuttgart and Leipzig / Halle . The outward flight is always carried out via Luxor . The aim is to initially offer travelers a week of Luxor / Nile cruise. Then it goes by domestic flight (also Sunexpress Germany) to Taba, where the organizer FTI offers a subsequent swim.
