The Tashkent airport ( Uzbek : Toshkent Xalqaro Aeroporti ; Russian Ташкент-Южный аэропорт ) is an international airport in Tashkent , capital of Uzbekistan . In terms of the number of passengers, it is the busiest in the country. It is a 15 to 30 minute drive from the city center.
history
The history of the airport can be traced back to 1923 when the first flight connections to Tashkent began. A major commercial airport developed during the Soviet era. In 1993 1,409,900 people used the airport. In the mid-1990s, the airport was renovated considerably with the help of western construction companies. The terminal renovation followed in 2001. In 2003 it was named the best airport in the CIS. The airport's capacity today is several thousand passengers an hour.
Airlines and Destinations
Tashkent Airport is the home airport of the Uzbek national carrier Uzbekistan Airways . From here, the operator operates an extensive route network with several dozen direct destinations. In addition, numerous other airlines regularly land in Tashkent and connect the airport with other destinations predominantly in the CIS region.
In the German-speaking area, only Frankfurt am Main is currently regularly served by Uzbekistan Airways. Turkish Airlines flies to Tashkent Airport from Istanbul Airport 14 times a week, making it the airline with the second most weekly flights after Uzbekistan Airways.
