The Ulyanovsk-Vostochny Airport ( Russian Аэропорт Ульяновск-Восточный is) one of two airports in the city of Ulyanovsk in Russia .
It was established in 1983 as the factory airport of the local aircraft construction company UAPK and, at 5000 meters, has one of the longest runways in the world. On October 30, 1985, the first Antonov An-124 built here took off on its maiden flight from this airport . Today the airport is mainly served by cargo planes, while passenger planes serve the much closer Ulyanovsk-Baratajewka airport . The airport is the seat of Volga-Dnepr Airlines, which specialize in particularly large and heavy air freight .
