Otherwise the lanes are not illuminated.
Incidents
From 2002 to December 2016 there were nine total losses of aircraft at Wamena Airport. A total of 22 people were killed.
- On April 21, 2002 an Antonov An-72 of the Estonian Enimex ( aircraft registration ES-NOP ) was damaged in a very hard landing, whereupon a smaller fire broke out due to hydraulic leaks . The only vehicle of the airport fire brigade could not be started because the battery was empty. Then some firefighters ran to the plane with hand fire extinguishers. After 20 minutes the battery of the fire engine was charged enough to start the engine and drive to the burning aircraft. The machine - on the way on behalf of Trigana Air Service - was irreparably damaged. The only occupants, four crew members, were uninjured.
- On December 18, 2016, a Lockheed C-130H Hercules of the Indonesian Air Force (registration number A-1334 ) flew on approach to Wamena Airport in hilly terrain 1700 m southeast of the runway threshold. This CFIT ( controlled flight into terrain ) in the province of Papua killed all 12 crew members and the only passenger.
