Railway line Frederikshavn – Aalborg to Aalborg

The Aalborg Airport Railway is a planned Danish railway line that will connect Aalborg Airport with the inner-Danish long-distance railway network ( Danish Landsdelstrafik ).

meaning

The new route to Denmark's third largest airport will contribute to an overall improvement in public transport in the Aalborg area . Aalborg Airport is a growing airport and the route will support this with direct connections to Aalborg and Aarhus .

With the airport railway it will be possible to relocate handling facilities from Lindholm station to a location near the airport. This will solve part of the noise problem for residents of the current terminal facilities.

Construction planning

In the planning phase, a northern and a southern basic variant were proposed. With the southern solution, the route leads south of Lergravssøerne and along Lufthavnsvej to a new stop at the airport. For the northern solution, the route north of Lergravssøerne leads to the airport. The stop with a platform with one track will be given a siding and the new handling facilities. The platform length is 180 meters for trains with a length of 204 meters or alternatively 300 meters.

The line begins on the western track of Lindholm station and is first led over the existing embankment of the Fjerritslev – Frederikshavn railway line and over the previous track to the current handling facility. Then the Lindholm Å is crossed with a bridge and the river relocated for a short distance. Then it follows the northern edge of the allotment garden and a landfill, along Thistedvej, which crosses the route with a bridge. Then, depending on the variant, the route follows south or north along Lergravssøerne and further along Lufthavnsvej to the train station.

The line is being designed for future electrification.

Time schedule

In the political decision "En ny Storstrømsbro, Holstebromotorvejen mv." of the Folketinget of March 21, 2013, 276 million crowns were approved for the construction of the new railway line. 15 million crowns are earmarked for noise abatement measures.

The hearing during the planning phase took place from October 28 to December 18, 2013. The project was in the public hearing from March 2 to April 27, 2015. The information for citizens in Aalborg took place on March 25, 2015. Construction of the airport runway should start in 2016 and be completed in 2019.

Due to the test phase for the European Rail Traffic Management System 2 (ERTMS 2) signaling system , which is undergoing a long-term test on the route between Hobro and Frederikshavn , Banedanmark decided at the end of 2016 to postpone a series of works from 2019 to 2020. This concerns the renewal, speed increase and preparatory work for the electrification of the Hobro – Aalborg (Lindholm) line, the construction of the Aalborg airport railway and the capacity expansion in Vendsyssel.

The first 950 meters of track were completed in June 2017 on the existing railway site in Lindholm.

In mid-September 2020, test operations will begin on the new route, which will go into operation in December 2020 in connection with the timetable change for 2021.
