history
The airfield was opened as a military airfield in October 1942 (ICAO code LSMN). The visible small splinter protection hangars date from that early period.

After the end of the Cold War, the Swiss Air Force gave up the airfield in 1995, which had an underground aircraft cavern . On January 30, 2002, the Raron airfield with its shortened runway was included by the Swiss Federal Council as a civil airfield in the civil aviation infrastructure plan.
Flight operations
Between 1992 and 2001, an average of 3350 aircraft movements per year took place at Raron airfield.
