The Fogo Bridge is a road bridge in the Scottish hamlet of Fogo in the Scottish Borders Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
description
The masonry viaduct was built in 1641 at the behest of James Cockburn . In 1843 it was revised and probably partially rebuilt. The Fogo Bridge spans the Blackadder Water with a lined segment arch . It crosses a side road, which, however, is the main entrance to the hamlet of Fogo. The masonry consists of well-hewn quarry stone from sandstone . The bridge is partially plastered with Harl . A simple band runs below the cantilevered parapet. The bridge closes on all sides with square posts with flat pyramidal caps. In addition to various initials of the builders, two coats of arms are also embedded in the parapet; that of the Cockburns of Ryslaw as well as that of his wife Marie Edmonstone .
