history

Foghow has been the location of a church building since early Christian times . Church history can be traced back to the 7th century. In 1159 the church there was subordinated to the Kelso Abbey . Today's Fogo Kirk was probably built in the 1570s.

Due to the favorable soils, Fogo developed as an agricultural settlement. In the 1880s there was a school in Fogo that could accommodate 123 students. It was housed in a building from 1864 and has since been closed.

traffic

Located in a sparsely populated region of the Scottish Borders, Fogo is only accessible via unclassified back roads. The Fogo Bridge over Blackadder Water, built in 1641 and via which the A6105 is accessible in the north, is of infrastructural importance . In the West of is within a few kilometers Oxton by Morpeth leading A697 reached. In the east, however, runs the A6112 ( Grantshouse - Coldstream).

Around two kilometers to the west, Marchmont station was established along the newly opened Berwickshire Railway in 1865 . The route coming from St Boswells led to Reston , connecting the Waverley Line with the East Coast Main Line . However, like the railway line, the station was closed in 1966.
