history

Foghow has been the location of a church building since early Christian times . Church history can be traced back to the 7th century. A previous building was placed under the Kelso Abbey in 1159 . Wilhelm de Landallis , Bishop of St Andrews , paid a visit to the Church in March 1243. For centuries their pastors lived far away. This changed only after the Scottish Reformation .

Today's Fogo Kirk was probably built in the 1570s. In 1683 the building was expanded and probably largely rebuilt in 1755. A restoration was carried out in 1817.

description

The Fogo Kirk stands in the middle of the surrounding cemetery in Fogo. Blackadder Water runs directly north . The masonry of the T-shaped building consists of roughly hewn quarry stone from sandstone with contrasting natural stone details . The facades are plastered with Harl . The window design is not uniform. Both round-arched windows and a pointed arched window are installed. On the west gable sits a roof turret with an open bell.
